plus, racking equipment is a lot easier with two people...
Currently, we're hosting over 200 drives!
We work together in a small "HQ", north of Sacramento.
Over the past two years, we've made steady improvements behind the scenes:
- upgraded to a 208V circuit (this required a 3-day cabinet move...)
- acquired IPv4 and IPv6 address space
- acquired an ASN and started announcing routes
- added a redundant transit link
- joined three internet exchange points (SFMIX, FCIX, FREEMIX)
Early History
Initially, drives were hosted in three (self-built) 15-bay servers. Ryan had a 1/4 cabinet lease in Rancho Cordova, CA. This was in 2020.
Eventually... the setup was upgraded to hot-swappable SAS JBODs colocated in Fremont, CA. For a while, we were leasing two cabinets, since our first suite only had 15A circuits — and we were averaging 80% of the rack breaker limit. It took an entire weekend to migrate the equipment to a suite that offered higher-current 208V circuits.
